Elvan Farm is nestled on the edge of Dartmoor, just outside the quaint village of Throwleigh. Our farm is spread across 400 acres and has been in the family for 2 generations. We farm sheep, cattle and ponies, running across 4 commons of Dartmoor. Being a busy working hill farm, there is always plenty to see, with animals and tractors coming and going.

The farmhouse & shepherd’s hut are located on the edge of an old blue elvan granite quarry, hence where the name of the farm comes from.

Once we’ve received your payment, we will send out your booking confirmation & a welcome pack, this will includes places to visit & dine out. The Pack also covers additional things like maps and useful numbers plus the little extras that make your stay in The Elvan hut unique, relaxing and enjoyable.

The hut will be ready and waiting for you to arrive any time after 3pm - late arrivals are not a problem for us – so if you need to complete a day’s work and then drive here, just let us know and we’ll make sure everything’s ready for your arrival time. We understand that there is nothing worse than rushing around when you have to leave early so you don’t have to leave your Elvan stay until 11am on the day of departure.

We are surrounded by beautiful villages that each have, charming country pubs for you to discover.

The nearest town is Okehampton, a short 15 minute drive, where you can get all your essentials. Within an hours drive, you can be on either North or South coast – the choice is yours.

The country lanes and trails are perfect for bumbling along or you can visit the beautiful National Trust areas such as Castle Drogo, Fingle Gorge and on to a perfect picnic stop at Fingle Bridge or take a longer stroll around local resoviors such as Fernworthy, Meldon & Hennock.
