The Elvan
At Elvan, a getaway retreat is all about escaping the busy hustle and bustle of everyday life, and finding the time to relax, discover and enjoy.
We want staying in the hut to feel as luxurious as can be, so we have tried to go the extra mile to make it really comfortable for you, adding in a few delightful treats.
The hut is beautifully handcrafted from start to finish, built by Steve and Malcolm, Hayley’s dad, using wood sourced from sustainable tree’s, from our local Wood Mill. The hut is 20 feet long, ensuring all space is used as efficiently as possible, providing you with plenty of room and all the amenities that you require, for your perfect break.

Cosy Corner
We have created a light, tranquil space for you to relax and unwind, surrounded by beautiful views.
We have a cosy seating area for you to put your feet up and relax. Including some very trendy, bespoke cushions, all plumped and ready for your arrival, created especially for us by The Dartmoor Shepherd. Whether you wish to dive into a good read, or open up the double doors, sit back, relax and indulge in the beautiful views of Cawsand Beacon, this is the perfect spot to unwind.
Enjoy your welcome tea tray on arrival with a little baked treat for you – there’s nothing better than a cuppa when you arrive! Or simply load off your luggage and venture out to explore just what Dartmoor and our charming villages, have to offer.
On more chilly days, snuggle up by the roaring log burner with a good book or simply enjoy the peace and quiet.
Ensuring you have the most peaceful stay is our priority. Hence, we have invested in a high quality, handmade, king size mattress.
The mattress is indeed made, using wool from our very own sheep. Sheep wool has many amazing qualities that will give you the best night’s sleep…Hypoallergenic, 100% natural and renewable but most importantly, exquisite comfort.
So, snuggle up and enjoy the lazy lie ins, after all, there is no better feeling than waking up in the morning and realising that you can drift off, back to sleep if you wish. No agenda, no deadlines, no appointments…heaven.
Elvan Dining
The hut has a built-in kitchen area, including all the necessities that you will require.
We have an electric hob, fridge, microwave, kettle & toaster, and small sink, with hot water within the hut. We also have cupboards for storage, including all the essential utensils and crockery, to enable self catering, for those who love to cook – there’s a list in the Welcome Pack.
When you arrive at Elvan, you will be provided with breakfast for the next morning, including our own fresh eggs, bacon, sausages, bread, granola, orange juice & local milk, as well as tea, coffee and hot chocolate, to get you started, in the right way.
If you have any other dietary requirements, we are more than happy to supplement these, please just email us before your visit.

Romantic Evenings
There is nothing more heart-warming than a real fire, so tucked away within our hut, there is a log burner with a constant supply of wood to keep you toasty and warm – we do not charge extra for this – it’s included in the price.
Our sensual candles and board games, make for cosy evenings, making the most of your time spent together.
Outside your shepherd’s hut, makes for a perfect, romantic location for dining and relaxation. On a summers evening, enjoy a BBQ, with a glass in hand, taking in the beautiful sunset over the hills of Dartmoor, whilst huddling round the flickering firepit.

Elvan Shower & more
There is a charming bathroom hidden away at the end of the hut, with all the luxuries you need.
There is plenty of room in the shower, whether its to start your day, invigorated or to freshen up after a busy day exploring. There is also a washbasin, heated towel rail and a flushing toilet.
We provide towels, flannels and a starter selection of luxury shower treats.

Handmade Artisan Soap
The Dartmoor Soap Company produces, natural, handmade soaps, here on Dartmoor. The soaps are created in small batches, using only natural ingredients which, wherever possible, are sustainably sourced and harvested locally.

Our packaging is totally biodegradable, all ingredients are as locally sourced as possible and neither our products nor their ingredients are tested on animals.

The Dartmoor Shepherd
You will spot our very own Dartmoor Greyface, sheepskin rugs on the floor, and bespoke cushions, created especially for us by The Dartmoor Shepherd.
Lewis & Flora are the faces behind The Dartmoor Shepherd. They are first generation farmers who rent an assortment of various parcels of pasture across Dartmoor and are the only Shepherds in the world to farm all three of Dartmoor’s native Longwool sheep.
‘Now sadly all rare breeds, our sheep were bred for a time when wool was profitable and lambs were given the time they needed to mature and grow naturally. ‘
The Dartmoor Shepherd is on a mission to revive our beautiful, ancient breeds and are passionate about farming their flocks in an ethical and sustainable way.
Hence, as well as selling their lamb direct to the public, they began using the unique sheepskin rugs from their rare breed flocks (a bi-product of their lamb) to make into products, which they now sell at shows and events across the country and to various retailers. They also have a beautiful shop in Chagford, showcasing all their wonderful products, of which are all handmade in the South West.
